Fearing The Return To Normal

Not everyone is excited or mentally prepared t.o go back t.o their lives because the pandemic has been a forced respite. It’s provided a guilt-free release from the pressures of work, social and family obligations and interactions. Even the words “return t.o normal” bring on a touch of anxiety for some people.

Many people have discovered they appreciate the ability t.o work from home, and t.o have a legitimate reason t.o avoid unwanted or stressful social activities without feeling guilty. For others, it’s provided an opportunity t.o spend more quality time with those in the same household and t.o spend time on hobbies.

Working from home has eliminated daily commutes, and many are using the time saved t.o add exercise into their routine and t.o eat more home-cooked meals.

Many people are hoping t.o continue working from home, at least part-time, even after everyone is vaccinated and the world goes back t.o "normal".

If you’re feeling anxious about the “Great Restart”, remember t.o be patient with yourself and others. After a year or more of isolation, returning t.o normal will likely be a shock.

Have you enjoyed the forced isolation? Or has there been little change to your routine? Do you have any concerns about the 'return to normal'?

It was yesterday the 24th that my office sent out a mass email letting people know we could return.

I am very happy to go back to the office, I didn't like having my workstation at home. I would use the dining room table as my office and it wasn't working for me.
Also my cats would jump on me and didn't let me concentrate.

I like having the separation (physical, mental & emotional) of work and home.

My social life wasn't anything to envy anyways, so I didn't feel affected very much when it came to that. I do miss eating at restaurants and I can't wait to feel safe enough to do that again.

Eventually, I can't wait to travel again. When it's safe enough to do so.

Normal? hmm, seems it’s been politics and bullshit as usual the whole time.

My life was going in the toilet before the bug. Working at home hasn't done anything to improve my existence. Then, last August my health took a drastic turn for the worst and I've been living in physical hell and a pharmaceutical haze ever since. On top of that, a woman I've been speaking with here (for almost 3 years) told me to fuck off.

I see poverty and death in my near future. Just to let you know how bad things are, I almost set my kitchen on fire on Monday — my ceilings are black; symbolic, isn't it? It's going to be a sad ending for me, with or without that virus.

Normal... hope? Normal is a town in Illinois and Hope is a city in British Columbia; neither of THOSE are part of my destiny.

It's 2 in the morning and I can't fall asleep...

normal will never happen. Not everyone wants the vaccine. So this is the new normal . No more big parties, weddings , games , etc .

I think that there will be a new normal after mass vaccination how long will that take? I expect at least five years before things like foreign holidays and trips are viable, might be good for the planet though, not so good for those of us who are single.

Normal and perfect have always been unattainable objectives for me - and I have completely embraced the "controlled chaos". Worked for a Fortune 500 company for 30 years but never the same assignment for more than 3-4 years - offered tremendous opportunities for professional growth; and many of those reassignments involved location changes. Retired now but currently volunteering whatever assistance I can provide during the pandemic - sometimes working a call center scheduling vaccination appointments, sometimes working at one of the vaccination clinics. Never really totally isolated - just cautious and followed the appropriate protocols. Fully vaccinated now and my volunteer activities have afforded me the opportunity to interact with thousands of people on the phone and in person (the vaccination clinics typically inoculate 1,000 to 1,500 people a day) . Looking forward to whatever the future holds.

As much as I would like things to get back to normal, there will be a new normal for everyone, even with the shots we will still have to practice social distancing and wearing masks as everyone is not getting the vaccine. So I can't wait to see what the new normal will look like.

I hope you enjoy a great Friday, and a wonderful weekend..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Working from home can be difficult and doesn't suit everyone. When I was in the corporate sector and worked from home, I found I logged on earlier and logged off much later each day (perhaps because of the time saved from not having to commute).
Here, vaccinations are not happening fast enough to keep ahead of new cases, and especially now, the concern is that fifty-five percent involve the 'variants of concern'. continue to keep diligent and I am sure you will get back to some sense of normalcy.

"Normal" in this instance was intended to be a return to what was comfortable and usual in terms of interactions, activities and routines. Until "herd immunity" is established, the various health protocols that many have been following will continue. Sounds like you have a good handle on what will work best for you.

Vaccine hesitancy seems to exist everywhere. I don't have a crystal ball so am not able to predict what things will look like in a year or even six months from now. I will keep doing what feels "right" for me and those I care about.

I think that is a question many of us are asking. Maybe a "normal" has to be re-defined.

For me, there isn't an aspect of my life that hasn't been impacted since March 12 of last year. I am thankful that my adult daughter does live with me, as I honestly don't know how well I would have managed if totally on my own. I sense you are a strong woman which is how you have managed through the chaos. Keep it up....there is hope over the horizon.

It will be interesting to see how 'proof of vaccination' will be required to engage in different activities. At a minimum, it will be for international travel. It amazes me how many people are 'vaccination hesitant' and the assorted reasons they give for being so.

I applaud your involvement and commitment to your community in combatting Covid. The regional differences in how vaccinations are being rolled out are staggering. Your flexibility, adaptability and ability to work through the chaos are attributes you have embraced. Well done!

I hadn't heard of either of those towns. Always wonder how some places came to be named what they. Perhaps it's time to change the pharmaceuticals in order to have a different outcome.

Outcome? Different?
I guess YOU have no clue what it's like to deal with doctors.
THEY, have a degree.
I HAVE google and random medical info. Who do you think wins? I am going fucking crazy. I'm already there.

No worries and thanks for the, ugh 'suggestion'. It'll all work out when I'm fucking dead.
Yep... keep being positive? 🤔

Actually, I am well acquainted with doctors and hospitals, having dealt with them since I was a child. If you aren’t getting the results you expected or were promised, challenge them. You have to be your own advocate.

Stress is the norm for many. In my case, I would rather be back at work then in what seems like never-ending limbo.

I think that " normal " will have to be re defined for many.

Returning to the old ways for some was not healthy, right, or just. People, for the most part, have adapted and pivoted, in order to make this work. They will have to find their own sense of normality in which they can operate~

Paul....a patient advocate may be able to navigate some of this. Hospitals and private offices are where they can be found. Perhaps in the office of social work. It certainly can get overwhelming at times and lead to other health concerns, as our emotional health is connected to our physical health. Positive vibes and much luck sent your way ~

I agree, for many, the past year has given them an opportunity to re-evaluate what's important and what needs to be kept or changed. "Normal' is different for everyone.
